May Lightfoot

May is a nurse, mother, and assemblagist working in the suburbs of New York City. Her professional background spans wound care, dialysis, film set medicine, and psychiatric inpatient care—disciplines that have sharpened her attention to fragility, resilience, and the body's relationship to its environment.

Her creative practice centers on salvage and recontextualization. She sources materials from liminal spaces: high-tide lines where manufactured debris tangles with organic matter, abandoned lots where nature reclaims human infrastructure, and railroad margins where refuse accumulates outside the sanitized grid of suburban life.

Through assemblage and found-object work, May pursues a deliberate disorientation of time—stripping away commercial branding and polished surfaces to access something rawer and less mediated. Her work reflects both a critique of contemporary material culture and a desire to recover authenticity through the discarded and overlooked.
