The Resuscitationists: Breathing Life
into Work
On view June 14 - Aug 16
Opening Reception
Sunday, June 14, 2026 from
3:00 to 6:00 PM
The Resuscitationists brings together three regional artists and makers — Megan Offner, Erica Recto, and Filiz Soyak — whose practices share an uncommon thread: each reaches beyond the object being made and into the making itself as a living, breathing act. Whether through formal meditation, the rhythm of repetitive mark-making, or a deep commitment to ecological reciprocity, these three practitioners breathe life into their work — literally and philosophically.
“Resuscitationist” is a made-up term — and perhaps soon a movement. It names something these three makers have been doing all along: reviving, sustaining, and animating the work they produce through intentional practice and a search for higher vibrancy.
The Artists
Megan Offner
Megan Offner is the founder of New York Heartwoods, a woman-owned circular wood products consultancy based in the Hudson Valley. Offner grew up in western Montana amid natural grandeur but on frequent drives west witnessed clearcut devastation at a young age which left a lasting impression on her. She began her career in set design before leaving to pursue a future working with wood sourced from more sustainable sources and used for less ephemeral purposes. This eventually led to establishing New York Heartwoods as a bespoke furniture fabrication studio transforming storm fallen or site-based trees into heirloom quality furniture. NYH work has been featured in such publications as Architectural Digest, Dwell Magazine, Remodelista, 1stdibs - The Study, and Martha Stewart, and has worked with clients including Clodagh Design, Hadley Wiggins, Eileen Fisher, Etsy Inc., and DIA Art Foundation. Today, Offner’s practice is dedicated to sourcing and consulting on circular and climate-positive solutions in fabrication and construction. This show will include several NYH furniture pieces which are a testament to what it means to build with intention and highlight her current practice as an advocate and a resource for sustainability.
Artist
Erica Recto
Erica Recto is a Filipino American ceramicist creating sculptural and functional wares from her studio in rural Millerton, NY. Recto began her career in apparel design. Through the soft nature of working with fabric she discovered fluidity in shaping clay. She often introduces fiber to her constructs. Hand-building is a meditative process for Recto whose work finds freedom and expression through repetitive motions and mark-making. She works organically, without pretense discovering the outcome through the process, never dictating it.
Recto was the founder of BES, an art gallery in Millerton, NY which showcased with work of local artist as well as herself. BES exemplifies Recto’s commitment to making and makers. She played an integral role in sharing artists and the act of art making with many by creating a community dedicated to elevating and fueling creativity.

She received her higher education here in the states before spending time in Jordan, Barbados and then, Brooklyn, before moving to the Hudson Valley in 2017.
Art is the language through which all of the cultures she experienced are expressed in unison. Her work explores time, nature and rhythm. Integral to her practice is mindfulness, meditation and breathwork. She discovered the transformative integration of breathwork after becoming a mother. Motherhoods, she credits with shifting her focus to only that which is essential and releasing the rest which now informs her creative process.
